Saturday 27 & Sunday 28 June, 2009

Britain's most innovative outdoor festival returns to the Rothiemurchus Estate, near Aviemore in the awe-inspiring landscape of Cairngorms National Park.

Incredible value Earlybird tickets are now available
at a recession busting £50 for the weekend.

It's on!  We're back!  There are some changes to fit the times and the amazing place we're in, but the beautiful song remains the same. We've moved the dates to the last week of June to be more sensitive to the seasonal activities on the Rothiemurchus Estate and in the area and we're making ourselves more weatherproof.  And the Outsider will be part of the Homecoming celebrations.

We're currently finalising the programme details and will be updating the website regularly.  However, you can get Earlybird tickets at great prices now for a limited period.

Come join us in June.

The philosophy of the Outsider Festival is to create a new kind of festival; a greener festival; a festival to share and take part in; a festival celebrating the great outdoors and a festival with a conscience. Whilst maintaining the Outsider's environmental agenda and celebration of the great outdoors, Outsider 09 will see some changes, with a different layout and programme from the Outsider 07, but the format remains the same.

The Outsider presents a programme which caters for diverse tastes and
interests not found at your average festival, including outdoor
activities, music, conversation, movies, comedy and cabaret as well as
cool stuff for kids in the UK's most beautiful landscape. Expect indie
bands, fresh talents, world music and celtic roots, all under canvas in
our new Big Top Tent, Acoustic Tent and Club Tent. Our boutique style
of programming allows us to fix the Outsider tickets at incredibly good
prices, which is great news for you.

The Outsider is the only festival in the UK that offers you a huge range of outdoor
activities both inside and outside the arena,
including the OutRunner, a 12k Run
around Loch An Eilein, and the OutRider, a world-class mountain bike event, in
some of the most magnificent scenery in Scotland.  Both events have developed considerably from the 07 Outsider with relay versions that allow you to take part with your mates or your family.

The Outsider Forum - a programme of topical talks and fascinating debate from inspirational speakers, environmental specialists and intrepid adventurers. To mark Scotland's Year of Homecoming, we will celebrate Scotland's international role in environmental innovation and development.

Outsider Active - offering a huge range of opportunities to go hiking, strolling, running, gorge-walking, river rafting, mountain climbing, nature watching, bushcraft, stargazing and loads more.

Outsider Village - a selection of fantastic produce from across Scotland, providing all the energy required for an outdoor weekend. All our tasty, gorgeous food and drink will be carefully selected, sourcing local and organic produce when possible and always top quality. The Village will include lots of stalls with interesting things to say or sell.

The Outsider Campsite will be adjacent to the arena and will offer both quiet camping and boutique camping (details of which will be announced later). You will have loads of space in our new campsite - it will be like real camping in the Highlands - and there is no limit on the size or type of tent you bring (though every camper must have a weekend camping ticket). Campervans and caravans are welcome.  A drop off arrangement will be available to families, though parking is adjacent and only minutes away.  Festival-goers can also park in Aviemore, a 20-minute walk away. The campsite will be open from 12noon on Friday 26 June to 12noon on Monday 29 June.  The will be food facilities on site.

The Outsider is held on the historic Rothiemurchus Estate, owned and conserved by the Grant Family for generations.  Rothiemurchus is considered one of the most important environmental sites in the UK.

"Rothiemurchus Forest is not just trees, but a wonderfully rich network of habitats and wildlife, interdependent and evolving. The conservation of this diverse, living landscape does not happen by accident. Long term planning and sensitive use maintain and enhance the forest for future generations. Thank you for helping." Johnnie Grant, 15th Laird

The Outsider festival site is a mile and a half from the A9 - the main route linking central Scotland with the North - and from Aviemore, on the road to Coylumbridge and the Cairngorms Mountains.

The railway station at Aviemore on the Edinburgh to Inverness line is a 20-minute walk to the site. The nearest airport is Inverness, 50 minutes away.

The event arena will be open from 10:00 till 23:00 on both days
Campsite from noon on Friday 26 June to noon Monday 29 June

The first artistic programme details for the Outsider 09 will be announced soon.
